KICKSTARTER: THE BLOCKHEADS: BEYOND THE CALL OF DURY

http://kck.st/1H1negP

Free Seed Films have launched a Kickstarter campaign to make a definitive documentary on the legendary backing band of Ian Dury; The Blockheads. The team are hoping to raise £50,000 in order to document the true talent and extensive careers of the 4 original band members; Mick Gallagher, Chaz Jankel, Johnny Turnbull and Norman Watt-Roy, from the beginning to present day. Elton John was quoted as saying that Ian Dury had the best live band in England, a reputation that made them the number one session musicians in the UK, before the age of sampling and programmed music took hold. Their live performances still inspire to this day.

No one has ever told the full story of The Blockheads on film. Previous documentaries involving anything to do with the band, focused on the artists they were backing. Working closely with the band, Free Seed Films has been gathering material for the last 18 months. There is so much untold music history to be revealed! The Blockheads are 60's generation musicians who found fame backing Ian Dury in the late 70's. Over the course of six decades, collectively they have played on hundreds of records for, written with, and backed countless artists live all over the world, including:

Paul McCartney, The Clash, Kilburn and the High Roads, John Legend, The Eurythmics, Nick Cave, Roger Daltrey, Roy Budd, Madness, Wilko Johnson, The Animals, Feargal Sharkey, Peter Frampton, Lulu, Link Wray, Tim Hardin, Sinéad O'Connor, Dr John, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Nick Lowe, Paul Young, Bob Geldof, Kirsty McColl, Steve Cropper, Alan Hull (Lindisfarne), Wreckless Eric, Cerys Matthews, Viv Albertine, and Jools Holland, to name a few.
The story of how the band came to back Ian Dury is quite amazing and the career that each member has had is quite frankly unbelievable. Starting in the choppy waters of the 60's music scene, they were in raw garage bands, as well as individually touring with established artists from the 60's and the 70's before meeting Ronan O'Rahilly and becoming the legendary Loving Awareness band for Radio Caroline. Then of course the years with Ian Dury occurred, which included two best selling albums, two top tens and a number one single, as well as working with various artists from Stiff Records and other mainstream acts of the time, such as The Clash.

Why £50,000?
